Health and wellbeing

Our health is important; without good health we are less able to enjoy life. So how do we sift through information and find the healthiest choices?

Here we provide links to articles on a variety of health topics:

  • Do you know what it takes to be happy? It is not just about spending our way to happiness. Research finds there are five elements: enjoying what we do each day, the quality of our relationships, finances, physical health, and pride in contributing to our community.
  • For healthy eating we need a balanced diet. The first step to improving your diet is keeping a food diary. What better way to achieve this though than through a simple app on your phone or tablet. Or use the computer to access websites such as MyFitnessPal or Lose It! both have free versions. Keep good records of your habits, work out which habits you need to change and make one change at a time.
  • Health anxiety is common and can be debilitating if people worry about any symptom no matter how slight. In its severe form people become hypervigilant to all physical changes occurring in their body and then imagine the worst. Understanding this anxiety helps you make changes. At The Conversation website Peter McEvoy’s article explains the detail.
